Hello, My Name Is Mark…

…and I’m a Texas Rangers Fan.

Why? I really don’t know. After all the Rangers have put me through, I don’t know why I keep coming back. Just like title of the blog: it’s masochism at it’s finest.

I guess there are a few logical reasons why I’m a fan of the Rangers. I saw my first baseball game back at the oven that was Arlington Stadium. I don’t remember much of it, or even how old I was at the time. I just remember the view from the right field seats, the smell of peanuts and beer, and the greatness of Nolan Ryan on the pitcher’s mound. I don’t remember if the Rangers won or lost, but I do remember feeling like I was at home.

Fast forward to 2008. The Rangers’ home has moved to The Ballpark in Arlington Ameriquest Field in Arlington Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, and their big name pitcher is Kevin Freakin’ Millwood. Rangers fans look back fondly on the days of Rusty Greer, Will Clark, Pudge, Mark McLemore, Dean Palmer, and Mickey Tettleton. But even those days sucked by successful teams’ standards. We won three divisional titles but only won ONE playoff game in those years (thanks a lot Yankees). But hey, at least we have three AL West Championship banners hanging above the first base seats.

So why am I still a fan? One part masochism, two parts stubbornness, and a dash of hope that one day, one day, I might actually be proud to be a Rangers fan.
